Hi All,

The autumn semester is now well under day, which is also to say that Christmas is just around the corner. Such is the flow of time. Enjoy.

First order of business: An overdue shout-out to Brian Yang, who is now a month and a few days into his Engineering Degree at Simon Fraser University after having arrived in Canada a mere two years ago.

Brian's story reminds us that rapid progress is possible, especially when we recognize that the call to adventure invariably comes from beyond the boundaries of our current comfort zone.

Rather than 'self-isolate' inside a Mandarin-speaking bubble (by no means difficult in Vancouver), Brian joined his high school football team and is now a fixture of a diverse friend group. He's also proficient, if not masterful, in the skibidi slang of today's youth, which is more than I can say for my once-hip self.

So guys, whatever goals we are currently pursuing, let's encourage each other and celebrate the victories, big and small.

In other news, the image now disturbing your tranquility is nothing other than my best attempt at an alluring Youtube thumbnail (#appropriateusesofChatGPT).

I promised some of you content related to business communication; however, this most recent Youtube post is more suited for people who really want to nerd-out on sentence structure.

I say that as if the content is esoteric, but I actually believe that all high school students should be learning this approach to writing and revision, if only to combat the current epidemic of fluffy, vacuous writing. And to that end I intend for this to be the first of 4 or 5 installments that, roughly speaking, will cover the main ideas in the first half of Joseph M. William's textbook, Style: Lessons in Clarity and Grace.

So please drop a like, subscribe, comment —and why not see how much of the lesson you already knew?

Cheers,

Nick Woolner
